Driver caught drifting, two others charged with drunk driving this week

Police also charged a 27-year-old with racing a vehicle after spotting a car "drifting" in a roundabout.

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police charged two motorists in the last few days with drinking and driving offences on area roads.

One took place on April 7, 2019, at approximately 2:20 a.m., when an officer on patrols conducted a vehicle stop on Pine Street near Fifth Street in Collingwood. Upon speaking to the driver, it became apparent that he was under the influence of alcohol which led to a roadside breath test resulting in a 'fail' reading. He was subsequently transported to Collingwood detachment for processing.

Charged is 56-year-old Daniel Currie of Collingwood, he is charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on April 30, 2019.

The second incident took place on April 8 shortly after noon when officers received information of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of High Street and Campbell Street in Collingwood.

The investigation revealed that a black Ford Escape had rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection however the female driver exited the Escape and walked away from the scene. Officers were able to locate the driver a short time later at her residence where she was taken into custody.

Charged is 54-year-old Rosemary Martin of Collingwood, she is charged with operation while impaired by alcohol as well as operation while impaired by blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). She is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on May 7, 2019.

On April 7, 2019, shortly before 8 p.m., an officer on patrols observed a Ford pickup truck doing what is referred to as 'drifting' in the Poplar Sideroad and High Street roundabout. A vehicle stop ensued where the driver, 27-year-old Morgan Campbell was charged with a Highway Traffic Act offence of racing a motor vehicle-stunt; he is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on June 212019. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driving privileges were suspended for seven days as well.

And on April 52019, shortly before midnight, an officer conducted a vehicle stop on Ontario Street where the male driver was found to have cannabis available to the driver. The cannabis was seized and 33-year-old Brandon Girvan of Collingwood was charged under the Cannabis Control Act for driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
