On July 31, 2020, at 12:18 a.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Main Street, in Wasaga Beach. Officers learned that a rental truck had mounted a median, collided with a "Community Safety Zone" sign, then crossed over the roadway and collided with a light post.

Officers arrived on the scene with paramedics and the driver was assessed and subsequently transported to hospital with minor injuries. Officers had reason to believe the driver had alcohol in his system when operating the vehicle and began an impaired driving investigation. The driver provided a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device and registered a "FAIL". Two breath samples were later obtained by police at the hospital.

As a result of the investigation, James Blackmore, 27 years of age, of Collingwood, Ontario, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Oct. 6, 2020.
