Collingwood man accused of resisting arrest, assaulting police

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police charged two motorist in the last few days with drinking and driving offences on area roads.

One took place on March 29, 2019 at approximately 10:30 p.m. when an officer on patrol conducted a vehicle stop on Simcoe Street near Napier Street in Collingwood. Upon speaking to the driver, it became apparent that he was under the influence of alcohol and was asked to exit his vehicle for further investigation however the male became uncooperative with officers on scene.

A struggle ensued as well as a foot pursuit, however, officers subsequently arrested the male who was then transported to detachment. Charged is 29-year-old Robert Eberhardt of Collingwood. He is facing Criminal Code offences of failure or refusal to comply with demand, resist peace officer and assault with intent to resist arrest as well as a Liquor Licence Act offence of driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

He is to appear on April 9, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood.

The second incident took place on March 30 shortly before 11 p.m. when officers received information of a vehicle that had gone off the roadway and was stuck in the ditch in the area of Grey Road 19 and Monterra Road in The Blue Mountains.

Upon speaking to the driver, it was found that she was under the influence of alcohol which led to her arrest and transport to Collingwood detachment for processing. Charged is 62-year-old Kersti Gerol of Etobicoke. She is facing charges of operation while impaired and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration. She is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on April 182019.
