Arrest made in Midland grocery store robbery

Midland - On Aug. 21, 2018 at 3:12 pm members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay detachment were dispatched to investigate a report of robbery that had just occurred at a grocery store on Simcoe County Road 93 within the Town of Midland.

Responding officers spoke with the store manager and learned of the circumstances that surrounded the incident and a description of the lone male who had fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.

Investigators with the assistance of members of the detachment OPP Community Street Crime Unit located and arrested the male in the afternoon of Aug. 23, 2018. Charged is Jordan Welch, 29 years, of Midland with the following criminal code offences.

  • CC 344(1)(b) Robbery with Theft
  • CC 334(b) Theft Under $5000- SHOPLIFTING
  • CC 354(1)(a) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada

He will be held for bail court and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date in Midland.
