Dr Thomas Edgar Staples, born in Ingersoll June 10, 1931, died peacefully at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood July 18, 2022 at the age of 91. Predeceased in 2017 by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia and his infant son Brian in 1965.

Tom is survived and mourned by his children Dr David Staples (Catherine), Dr Cathy Staples (Dr Tim Killip), Andrew Staples (Katrin) and grandchildren Dr Michael Killip (Felicity), David Killip (Anika), Madison, Matthew, Graydon, Eva, Tommy and Mattias Staples.

After obtaining his medical degree from Western Ontario in 1956, Tom and Patricia moved to Hanover to practice and raise their family. A dedicated small town family doctor, Tom will be remembered fondly by many patients, associates and friends. Active in the Hanover Little Theatre and the Barbershop Musicians, he also enjoyed curling, skiing and gardening.

A cancer survivor himself, he gave back as a volunteer with the Ontario cancer society and also served many years on the board of the Ontario Medical Association.

After retirement, Tom and Pat moved to Collingwood to enjoy many outdoor and social activities. When not at work or home, Tom could be found at his favourite place: the family cottage on Lake Muskoka. Here he would be relaxing with Patricia in their Muskoka chairs on the point watching the birds and the sunset; likely with a G & T in hand. Tom and Pat will be forever in our hearts and memories in Muskoka.

A private family ceremony will be held in Muskoka. If desired, a donation in Tom’s name could be made to the Hospice Georgian Triangle in Collingwood or your favourite charity. Friends may visit Tom’s online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
