Knoxville – Marjorie Lavers Reynolds, age 90, passed away May 19, 2021, with her family by her side.  She was born in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada to the late Captain Henry James Lavers and Laura Lavers.  She graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. in Household Science in 1953, interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, earned a M.S. in Nutrition-Physiology from the University of Minnesota in 1957, a Ph.D. in Nutrition-Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1964, and an Associate of Science in Business Data Processing from State Technical Institute at Knoxville in 1982.

Marjorie was a research dietitian and nutrition fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, a research associate in Biochemistry and in Nutrition at the University of Tennessee, taught Nutrition at Fort Sanders School of Nursing, and taught Data Processing at Pellissippi State Community College.  She served as President of the Knoxville and Tennessee District Dietetic Associations and was named Outstanding Dietitian of both.

She participated in many local organizations, including the Volunteer Ministry Center, Midway Rehabilitation Center, League of Women Voters, American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, University Women’s Club, Church Women United, and the Scottish Society of Knoxville.  Marjorie was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for 28 years, volunteered for Playmobile, was an Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women, and a member of the Church and Society Committee.  She enjoyed travelling in the U.S., Canada, England, Scotland, and Europe.  Marjorie was kind and always ready to help.  She loved her family, her friends and her pets.  When life got difficult, with support from her family and friends, Marjorie kept going.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, John, of 57 years, two sons, Steven, Southfield, Michigan, and Mark (Wendy), Nashville, Tennessee, sister Florence (Lloyd), Altoona, Wisconsin, nephews Philip and David.  The family thanks the staff of the DaVita Dialysis Center for many years of excellent care, the staff of Shannondale Health Care Center for their excellent care, and Debbie Bass for her excellent home care.

The Memorial Service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 19th at 11am.  Visiting with the family will follow the Service.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Second Presbyterian Church, 2829 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37909 or the charity of their choice.  Arrangements by Rose Funeral and Cremation-Mann.  Online condolences may be made at www.rosefuneraltn.com
