Matwijec, Irene Frances (nee Irving) passed away peacefully at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital on Tuesday June 28, 2022, in her 81st year.
Survived by Steve Matwijec. Loving mother of Karen, Kimberley and Bradley (Kim). Loving Granny of Dawson, Makenna and Malcolm Matwijec. Special auntie of Beverly & Dwight (Matthew, Patrick), Barbara & Dino (Nicholas, Christopher) and Stephen & Wendy (Trevor, Lauren).
Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Julie Poisson, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She will be deeply missed by so many.
Predeceased by her mother Arlena Irving (nee Eagles) (1996), father Charles Irving (1960) and sisters Jean Sholtz and Margaret Irving.
Irene had a love for education. She returned to school as an adult first attending Humber College, then York University and finally University of Toronto to receive her Bachelor of Education. She taught for many years in Toronto and continued to supply teach in the Collingwood area after retirement.
Irene also loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit many places. She had a particular fondness for Cuba.
In accordance with Irene’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. There will be a Celebration of Life to be announced for all those who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s name to the Heritage Community Church of Collingwood or the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.
