JONES, Royston Robert

Posted

Jones

Passed away peacefully at The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital on October 21, 2021 at the age of 97; following the loss of his beloved wife of 75 years, Beryl 6 weeks earlier. Predeceased by his two children, Carol Ashleigh and Neil Jones (Darlene). Loving and devoted grandad of Jonathan, Jason, Jennifer, Allison, Erin and Nicole. Proud "Gee Gee" to 18 great-grandchildren.
Roy and his brother were raised along the seaside, in Bournemouth, England by parents, Robert and Dorothy May Jones. He joined the British Merchant Navy in 1941 at age 16 and proudly and bravely served his country during WWII, until 1947 when he was discharged. Roy and his family emigrated to Canada in 1957 to start a new adventure. Spending their working years in Scarborough, Ontario. Roy and Beryl eventually retired to the quaint town of Beaverton, settling into their little white cottage.
They travelled the world, including multiple transatlantic voyages, as he always felt most at home while at sea. He was an avid collector of coins, stamps, toy cars and anything he deemed may be special. And he will always be remembered for his generous nature towards his grandchildren.
The family is comforted that Roy and Beryl were reunited in their final months, and would like to thank all the care providers at Bay Haven Retirement home for the excellent care and compassion.
Cremation to take place, arrangements entrusted to Chatterson Funeral Home in Collingwood. His remains will later be laid to rest, with Beryl at the Stone Church Cemetery in Beaverton.  To leave a message of condolence or to share a memory of Roy, please visit www.chattersonfuneralhome.com.
