Born on July 16, 1935 in Vilkaviškis, Lithuania, Joanna (Genčius) Duda; wife, mother, grandmother and friend; a wonderful person who was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.  Our “Bočia” as she was known by everyone, lived life with compassion, grace, and love, and passed away peacefully on March 12, 2019 with her family by her side. Predeceased by her parents Kazimieras and Uršulė (Rutkauskas) Genčius, and her brothers Bronius, Valesas, and Vytas. Loved ones who will miss Joanna deeply include Romas, her husband for over 60 years, her children Renata (Fred Koeman) Duda, Nida (Grant) McMurchy and Robert (Jennifer Marsanis) Duda and her grandchildren William, Joanna, Victoria McMurchy, Anika Koeman, Nathan and Evan Duda. Joanna was an active member of her Lithuanian community in Wasaga Beach, always willing to help organize various functions and activities. What set Joanna apart was her spirit and heart. The love for her family and friends was self-evident and her will and compassion was inspiring. Her legacy will live on forever through the lives of the people she has touched. Friends and family will be received at Fawcett Funeral Home in Collingwood on Friday, March 15 from 6 - 8 pm. A Lithuanian funeral mass will take place at Good Shepherd Lithuanian Chapel, 2121 Mosley St. Wasaga Beach, on Saturday, March 16 at 2 pm. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date. We are forever grateful for the exceptional care Joanna received from her doctors, nurses and caregivers at both the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and Hospice Georgian Triangle- Campbell House. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation-Campbell House, CGMHF, Camp Kretinga, or Romuva Inc.
