QMJHL Roundup: Kyte gets 2 points to put Mooseheads past Islanders 3-2

CHARLOTTETOWN — Patrick Kyte had a goal and an assist to lead the Halifax Mooseheads to a 3-2 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Saturday.

Raphael Lavoie and Samuel Asselin also scored for the Mooseheads (2-0) as they won their second straight game to open the season.

Lukas Cormier and Thomas Casey found the back of the net for Charlottetown (1-1).

Alexis Gravel stopped 30-of-32 shots for the win, while Dakota Lund-Cornish gave up three goals on 22 shots.

Halifax was 1 for 3 on the power play, and Charlottetown was 0 for 4 with the man advantage.

DRAKKAR 6 SAGUENEENS 4

BAIE-COMEAU, QUE. — Gabriel Fortier had two goals, including the game-winner in the third period, and an assist, and Justin Blanchette made 15 saves after replacing Kyle Jessiman in the first as Baie-Comeau overpowered Chicoutimi.

Nathan Legare also had a pair for the Drakkar (2-0), while Christopher Benoit and D'Artagnan Joly added singles.

Samuel Houde notched two goals, and Gabriel Villeneuve and Theo Rochette also found the back of the net for the Saugeneens (0-2). Zachary Bouthillier made 28 saves in the loss.

OCEANIC 6 REMPARTS 2

QUEBEC CITY —  Olivier Garneau had two goals and two assists and Colten Ellis made 22 saves for the win as the Rimouski cruised past Quebec in its home opener.

Jordan Lepage, Alexis Lafreniere, Charle-Edouard D'Astous and Jimmy Huntington added singles for the Oceanic (1-0).

Sam Dunn and Xavier Cormier replied for the Remparts (0-1). Dereck Baribeau made 26 saves in the loss.

ARMADA 5 CATARACTES 1

SHAWINIGAN, QUE. —  Joel Teasdale tied the game in the second period and added another goal and an assist, while Emile Samson made 22 saves as Blainville-Boisbriand thumped Shawinigan.

Maxime Collin, Antoine Demers and Luke Henman also netted goals for the Armada (1-0). 

Charles Beaudoin scored the lone goal for the Cataractes (1-1). Antoine Coulombe made 35 saves in the loss.

Blainville-Boisbriand's Jasper Rannisto received a game misconduct for interference in the second period, while Shawinigan's Leon Denny was also ejected for cross-checking in the third.

SCREAMING EAGLES 9 TITAN 3

BATHURST, N.B. — Mitchell Balmas provided the insurance with two consecutive goals in the second period and added an assist, while William Grimard made 15 saves as Cape Breton crushed the defending QMJHL champion Acadie-Bathurst. 

Antoine Crete-Belzile, Leon Gawanke, Ryan Francis, Noah Laaouan, Gabriel Proulx, Egor Sokolov and Mathias Laferriere added goals for the Screaming Eagles (1-1).

Liam Murphy, Marc-Andre LeCouffe and Evan MacKinnon notched goals for the Titan (0-2). Andrew MacLeod made gave up three goals on 12 shots before being replaced by Tyriq Outen, who allowed six goals on 46 shots.

VAL D'OR, QUE. — Felix Lauzon scored the game-winner and added three assists and Olivier Rodrigue made 28 saves as Drummondville pummelled Val D'Or.

Nicholas Girouard, Nicolas Guay, Pavel Koltygin, Oliver Turan and Xavier Simoneau also scored for the Voltigeurs (1-1).

Ivan Kozlov and Felix Boivin scored for the Foreurs (0-2). Mathieu Marquis stopped 47 shots in the loss.

OLYMPIQUES 3 HUSKIES 1

ROUYN-NORANDA, QUE. — Tristan Berube stopped 48-of-49 shots and Giordano Finoro scored the game-winner as Gatineau escaped with a win over Rouyn-Noranda.

Pier-Olivier Roy also scored for the Olympiques (2-0) and Shawn Boudrias added an empty-netter with just over a minute remaining in the third period.

Vincent Marleau had the lone goal for the Huskies (1-1). Samuel Harvey made 17 stops in the defeat.
