Trial set for Pelican Narrows man charged with murder

A trial is set next month for a Pelican Narrows man charged with second-degree murder.

Thomas Johnny Bernard Ross, 31, of Sandy Bay, was arrested in connection to the death of Darnell Bear, 33.

According to RCMP, just before 10 p.m. on Feb. 25, local healthcare providers were called to a home in Sandy Bay to give medical care to an unresponsive man. He was transported to the health centre. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased.

Saskatchewan Major Crimes Unit investigated, with assistance from Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows RCMP and Prince Albert and Tisdale Forensic Identification Services.

Ross appeared in Pelican Narrows circuit court Feb. 27. He reappears in court March 5 to speak to the matter. His trial is set for April 29.
