Hosting the battle for Near North bragging rights, the Legion Br. 34 Under 16 Orillia Lakers continued their winning ways against Collingwood and Huntsville.

In their first game against a very determined Collingwood team, the Lakers held the lead throughout the game. However, the girls were struggling shooting wise going 0-13 from the three-point arc. With the game within three points, Collingwood pressing and under 30 seconds left, Emma Thomson hit Taylor Coon with a great pass putting the Lakers ahead by five points, deflating the Collingwood team’s comeback attempt. Even though there were not any one or two players that stood out offensively, the game was won 27-22 on great defensive play by all the girls!

The second game against Huntsville was a different story. The Lakers were on, and took the play to the Huntsville team. Going 50% on their three-point shooting this game, and converting on many fast-break opportunities, the girls took an early lead and never looked back on the way to a 55-22 victory. The girls once again played outstanding defence, but in this game a very determined Lilja Toland led the squad with 18 points. Mya Erskine and Ashley Schryer also chipped in with eight points apiece in the win.

The Br. 34 girls are now off until Jan. 13, when they return to Ontario “B” League action, against their rivals from Barrie and the Mississauga Jayhawks.
