Young rugby players raise cash to sponsor new teammates

The local youth held a dance and donated the proceeds to their club, The Georgian Bay Titans, to cover the costs of memberships for youth whose families would struggle to afford the fee

Georgian Bay Titans players presented the money they raised at a dance this month to the club presidents Sean Rennie and Todd Hammond. The money was raised specifically to subsidize the cost of membership for kids who otherwise couldn't afford to play.

A group of local youth who play rugby together hosted their own fundraiser to make sure other kids in the community could try the sport too, regardless of financial circumstances.

Players from the Georgian Bay Titans Rugby club hosted a fund dance at the Nottawa Community Hall in November with the intention of raising money for the rugby club.

Specifically, they wanted the funds to go toward membership fees for children and youth whose families might struggle to cover the costs. The players made an official presentation of the funds to the club co-presidents, Todd Hammond and Sean Rennie, on Sunday, Nov. 27.

According to the Titans club, the dance proceeds will cover the costs of eight membership fees for local youth.

"[The players] want to make the program more accessible so they can share the positive and meaningful impact rugby has had on their lives with others," stated an email from the Titans club. "We want to thank all the kids who attended and danced up a storm to help the Titans reach their goal."
