The annual winter coat drive hosted by Collingwood Cares Community Outreach is still on this year, but like most things it's being done through a virtual platform.

Jasmine MacLellan has been organizing an annual coat drive for the last four years. It's a grassroots effort that involves her collecting donations of men's, women's and children's coats and snowsuits, and offering them for free to those who need them.

This year, she is using her Collingwood Cares Community Outreach Facebook page to post the coats and outerwear that are donated. They are offered for free and those who need them can reach out to MacLellan through her page.

"I saw a great need," said MacLellan. "I know many folks who were curious as to where to donate things, and decided since I see a problem and have the ability to fix it, why not try?"

She said each year she gives away 150 to 200 donated coats, and has already received and handed out 86 coats this year. She will be running the winter coat drive until November 1.

Those interested in donating can call 705-606-6551 or contact MacLellan through the Facebook page. She is not accepting hats or mitts, only winter outerwear and winter boots. She said there is a high demand for children's snowsuits, coats, and boots.
