In alignment with our commitment to manage our waste responsibly, the County of Simcoe proclaims Oct. 19-25 Waste Reduction Week in Canada here in Simcoe County.

This annual event focuses on the principles of circular economy, resource efficiency, and waste reduction, celebrating environmental efforts and achievements while encouraging new innovative ideas and solutions.

“The County continues to work closely with our residents to help reduce, re-use and recycle materials for the benefit of our environment and to protect Simcoe County for future generations,” said Warden George Cornell.

“With Leaf and Yard Waste Collections underway and Battery Collection running Nov. 2 to 6, Waste Reduction Week is a great opportunity to celebrate our record on diversion and explore more actions we can all take to reduce waste and conserve our landfill capacity,” said Cornell.

Canadians produce more than 31 million tonnes of waste annually (2.7kgs per person per day). In Simcoe County, residents and staff are already working together to divert around 60 per cent of curbside materials and 70 per cent of material collected at our facilities away from landfills.

By further reducing the amount of waste we produce, we can continue to increase our diversion, preserve the lifespan of our landfills, and support the environment.
