The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 40 new COVID-19 cases and one death in today's update (May 11).
The death reported today was a Wasaga Beach man between 65 and 79 years old who died on May 7. This is the fifth COVID-death reported from Wasaga Beach.
There are 930 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.
The health unit has reported 3,910 variant cases confirmed to date, with 674 of those cases still active.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,101 cases of COVID-19 with 9,400 of those cases recovered and 233 cases ending in death.
There are 29 people from Simcoe County and two from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes one new hospitalization since yesterday's update.
To date, 225,561 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 36 per cent of the region's population. About 3.4 per cent of the population has received two doses of vaccine.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case specifics will be updated soon).
- Wasaga Beach (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old.
- Barrie (11): Five people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case transmission is listed as close contact, one as outbreak-related, two as travel, and three as community-acquired.
- Springwater (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old.
- Innisfil (6): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact.
- Bradford West Gwillimbury (8): Two youth under 18 years old, three people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact, one is outbreak-related, and one was community-acquired.
- Orillia (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old.
- Oro-Medonte (1): One person over 79 years old.
- Tay (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case was community-acquired.
- Essa (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old whose case was community-acquired.
- New Tecumseth (5): Three youth under 18 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact, and one is listed as community-acquired.
- There are four new cases in Muskoka including two in Bracebridge, two in Huntsville.
