If you’ve been thinking of running for council or school board trustee, or registering as a third party advertiser in this fall’s Municipal Election, mark your calendar for Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

Two local information sessions will be offered for anyone who is contemplating filing nomination papers to run for Council or Trustee to provide more information on the process, as well as the recent changes to the Municipal Elections Act.

Changes include the timelines for nominations (May 1 – July 27 at 2 p.m.), the requirement for candidates to gather 25 signatures of endorsement before filing and changes to contribution limits to name a few.

More information will also be provided on the new Third Party Advertiser guidelines.

Staff from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing will present information and answer questions on the upcoming election. The two local sessions are being hosted jointly by the Towns of Collingwood and Wasaga Beach, and the Township of Clearview. Candidates are welcome to attend whichever session works for their schedule, regardless of municipality. For the Clearview session, please RSVP to [email protected] by Monday, April 2, 2018.

Additional sessions will be held throughout Simcoe County, and prospective candidates and third party advertisers are encouraged to attend any session that works for their schedule.
