NEWS RELEASE
SIMCOE COUNTY WALK TO END ALS
*************************
There has never been a better time to come join our Walk. This well-established and much loved event – previously known as the WALK for ALS – has been revitalized in 2019 with a new name and look that capture our determination and drive to create a future without ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a devastating terminal disease that directly affects about 1,000 Ontarians and their families, including many here in the community.

We amalgamated Barrie and Alliston Walks this year. So this is an exciting first year for the new, all-encompassing Walk to End ALS - Simcoe County… a new event with 34 years of Walk events under our belt!

This event brings together about 250 people from in and around the area who have mobilized their networks to donate to the cause. Last year, combined, Alliston and Barrie Walks raised an impressive $100,000! Community support has been essential to the success of the Walk!

Our inaugural Walk to End ALS, Simcoe County, is on Saturday June 8, 2019 at the HiWay Church (50 Anne Street North, Barrie).

The Walk is a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate hope for a future without ALS, honour those we have loved and lost, and show support for people and families living with the disease. Fundraising efforts and generous donations support the best ALS research in the country and enable the ALS Society of Canada to provide community-based support to people and families living with ALS.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) gradually paralyzes people because the brain is no longer able to communicate with the muscles of the body that we are typically able to move at will. Over time, someone living with ALS will lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow, and eventually breathe.  Approximately 80 per cent of people with ALS die within two to five years of being diagnosed.

Please join us to demonstrate your support for people living with ALS and for a future without ALS.
