Two more days for candidates to file for election

The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers for the Collingwood municipal election is Friday at 2 p.m.

There are two more days left to file nomination papers to become a candidate in the 2018 municipal election.

The deadline to file is Friday, July 27 at 2 p.m. Nominations can be submitted at Collingwood town hall until 4:30 p.m. today (July 25), from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow (July 26) and between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27. Potential candidates may also submit their nomination papers at the Collingwood Fire Hall (45 High Street) on Friday, July 27 only between noon and 2 p.m.

The fee for filing nomination papers is $100 for deputy mayor, councillor or any of the school board trustee roles. It’s $200 to file nomination papers to run for mayor.

In addition to an application form and personal information form, each candidate must obtain endorsements from 25 people with a Collingwood address.

The election takes place October 22, 2018, and votes will be cast by phone or online. To find out if you’re registered to vote, click here.

Currently, there are 19 people who have filed nomination papers in Collingwood including three for mayor, three for deputy mayor, and 13 for councillor.

Those running for mayor include Michael Blair, Brian Saunderson, and John Trude.

The deputy mayor candidates so far include Ian Chadwick, Tim Fryer and Keith Hull.

Of the 13 councillor candidates, voters will be asked to vote for seven.

The candidates thus far are: Christopher Baines, Stuart Beeston, Steve Berman, Jason Booth, Nick Brindisi, Shawn Cooper, George Dickenson, Deb Doherty, Cam Ecclestone, Sal Greco, Kathy Jeffery, Mariane McLeod, and Dale West.
