MIDHURST - The County of Simcoe is providing two additional leaf and yard waste curbside collections per household this summer. Bi-weekly collections will occur in July, collecting leaves, grass, branches and other appropriately prepared garden waste.

“The County’s leaf and yard waste collection program is popular, with growing participation rates each year,” said Warden George Cornell, “The County has a mix of rural and urban communities and this is a great example of the County adapting and responding to meet the increased needs of our diverse region while offering an added level of convenience to our residents.”

The bi-weekly yard waste collection was first implemented in 2013 with spring and fall programs. By increasing the regularity of the yard waste collections, the County has seen a year-on-year increase in the quantity of materials collected and the number of participating households. This spring was a record-setting season for leaf and yard waste, collecting approximately 6,000 tonnes compared to approximately 3,000 tonnes in previous years.

To determine your collection weeks in July, please download the Simcoe County Collects app, or consult the Solid Waste Management page on our website, simcoe.ca. Waste material must be in compostable yard waste bags and placed curbside on Monday morning of your collection weeks. Collection may not coincide with your regular garbage day.
