Collingwood is now offering some of its building services online, including building permit applications and inspection requests.

In an announcement posted last week on the town website, the town’s building services announced new customer service enhancements for the building department.

Building permit applications can now be submitted online at any time of day from anywhere there’s an Internet connection. There are fillable forms available on the town’s site now. This will allow paperless submissions to the town.

Instead of calling the town during business hours to book an inspection, you can now email an inspection request to the building inspectors. Include the owner’s name, permit number, site location, requested inspection, and whether you’d prefer a morning or afternoon inspection.

Building services will also be accepting payments and issuing water meter extension kits at the service counter, located on the third floor of the Collingwood Public Library. Previously, to obtain the permit, make a payment, and get the extension kit, you would have to visit three different locations.

Express permit services are coming soon. Once implemented, minor permits that qualify will be issued on the same-day as the town receives the application.

The final change is the option of a pre-application meeting. The town’s building inspector will be available for a meeting at the building department offices to review questions you may have before submitting a permit application. Those meetings are available by appointment. Click here for more information and contact information for the town’s building services department.
