On Sunday, June 27 the Town of Collingwood will join communities across the country to recognize Canadian Multiculturalism Day.

Canadian Multiculturalism Day invites all Canadians to discover the various cultures that bring Canadian society to life. Our diversity enriches our society, Canadian Multiculturalism Day encourages us all to celebrate and reflect upon our values of diversity including the many different races, religions and cultural practices of our nation.

On June 27, participate in virtual activities happening across the country, allowing Canadians to celebrate together and to learn more about the importance of multiculturalism in Canada, how it shaped our history, and how it enriches our present.  Learn more here:

In Collingwood, the On The Land We Love program, running June 5 – July 21, was inspired by Canadian Multiculturalism Day, along with World Environment Day, National Indigenous Peoples Day, and Canada Day. The program brings together community, culture, arts, and heritage to celebrate the rich diversity of Collingwood through the stories and experiences of our community and the relationship to where we live and grow together.

Throughout the month of May, community members were encouraged to submit an expression of their connection to this land through art, language, photographs, music, or dance, allowing others to hear, see, and feel how where one lives shapes who they are!

These Expressions can be viewed online at www.collingwood.ca/ontheland or ‘on the land’ through a series of interactive trail markers positioned in outdoor spaces including along Collingwood trails, in parks, and in Collingwood Downtown, in mapped out loops of varying lengths spanning 2km to 10km. Consider exploring these Expressions this Canadian Multiculturalism Day.

In addition, check out past recordings from the Town of Collingwood’s Telling Our Stories series including: a presentation from Dr. Rita Shelton Deverell who, in celebration of Black History Month, explored the role of storytelling as a catalyst for social change, and Collingwood Poet Laureate Claudia Ferraro who spoke with published Canadian authors Phoebe Wang, Laura Ritland, Randy Lundy, and Michael Fraser in celebration of National Poetry Month. Access the recordings at www.collingwood.ca/ontheland
