A downtown clothing boutique has been given the all clear to open a patio to serve drinks to customers.

Heather Favalaro is the owner of Homme Femme at 69 Hurontario Street, and she spoke to council last night in support of her application to open a patio.

The store sells men’s and women’s clothing, gifts, accessories, and apothecary.

She said she plans to serve food and beverages on the patio as an added service for her customers and the shoppers who are visiting downtown shops.

The menu will include items from local restaurants and cafes - one signature dish - from various locations and will include location and social media location on the menu for those restaurants.

Favalaro is hoping the addition of the outdoor patio will help make her shop unique and set it up as more of a destination shopping experience. She told council a patio would encourage more shoppers to visit bricks-and-mortar stores instead of shopping online.

Homme Femme opened in July, 2018.

Favalaro’s request was backed by the Downtown Collingwood BIA as a one-year pilot project limiting the use of the patio to food and beverage service.

Council voted unanimously in favour of the request at its meeting on June 24.
