The Parkbridge head office had five extra employees today, and all of them under 16.

Today was National Take Our Kids to Work Day, which was started in 1994 by The Learning Partnership, and Parkbridge employees participated by bringing their children to work with them on Nov. 14.

The students who participated are currently in Grade 9, and were given a one-day orientation of Parkbridge’s main operations and career options.

Katherine Gyles, Senior Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness and Corporate Communications for Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities Inc., said the company was delighted to participate in the initiative.

She brought her son, Michael Gyles, to work with her.

“It’s a great opportunity to show Grade 9 students the different elements of a work environment and expose them to Parkbridge, which is new to the community,” said Katherine Gyles. “We’re encouraging future real estate developers, urban planners and community operators.”

Michael said the say provided “great exposure” to what real life work will be like.

Andrew Boyd came to work with his mom, Monika Boyd, marketing manager at Parkbridge.

He said the people at Parkbridge were “great.”

“It’s surprising the amount of education you need for some jobs,” said Andrew. “You get a first-hand look behind the scenes and it’s a lot different than you’d expect.”

Parkbridge staff prepared a program for the students for the day that included an overview of the company, the new development projects, various career opportunities, and workplace culture.
