It's raining cats and dogs, well, mostly dogs. Precisely, puppies and all in one downpour.
The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) received 22 puppies from the Northern Dog rescue initiative this week. They came in three litters, one orphaned litter of eight, and two litters of seven with their mothers.
The puppies are not ready for adoption for at least another four weeks, so the GTHS has put the pups into foster care and has sent out a call for help feeding the hungry, growing dogs.
The shelter is looking for four large bags of Royal Canin puppy food, four cases of Royal Canin canned puppy food, and four large tubs of Esbilac puppy formula to get through the next few weeks preparing the puppies for adoption.
Adoptions and Outreach Supervisor Ayrlea Manchester said the GTHS could also use puppy training pads and some toys. Monetary donations can also be made through the GTHS website.
Manchester said it will be at least four weeks before the puppies are available for adoption, and due to a busy shelter schedule, staff cannot respond to adoption requests for the puppies until they are officially listed for adoption online here. None are currently listed for adoption. For now, all of the puppies will stay with foster families and will not be at the shelter. There is no waiting list or advance adoption booking available.
