Purchasing a piece of history will help preserve local heritage

The Collingwood Shipyards interpretive panel needs replacing, and the museum has a plan to raise the funds.

A photo of surviving former Collingwood Shipyards workers might be the key to finding the funds necessary to replace an interpretive panel at Collingwood harbour that features stories and photos of Collingwood’s shipbuilding past.

The photo was taken this summer at the 2018 Shipyard Social hosted by the Collingwood Museum. At the event, 62 former shipyard employees gathered for a group photo taken by Dave West. The photo is now available for sale at the museum.
Museum staff are asking for a minimum $5 donation on top of printing costs, which will be put in a fund dedicated to replacing the Collingwood Shipyards interpretive panel at the harbour. The panel that currently exists is showing damage now.

The printed photos are $15.16 for an 8X10 or $27.59 for a 16X9, prices include HST and the $5 donation. A digital file is also available for a minimum $5 donation.

To place an order for the photograph or make a donation toward the new shipyard interpretive plaque, call museum staff at 705-445-4811, ext. 7222 or email Melissa Shaw here.
