NEWS RELEASE
SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
*************************
On Thursday, Feb. 28, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), in partnership with the Ontario Arts Council (OAC), is inviting educators and artists from across Simcoe County to participate in the Art as a Catalyst for Change interactive forum.

The OAC and SCDSB have brought together accomplished artists from several disciplines to give educators a hands-on experience and see how they can further engage students by incorporating art into the curriculum. The forum will also explore how art can be used in the classroom to address social issues.

“Art is the first time a child has a chance to make their own decision,” said Sean George, from the OAC. “Art has always been a fundamental form of communication.”

Five workshops are being offered in different artistic disciplines including visual art, dance, drumming, drama and digital arts. The workshops are being led by digital artist Tori Foster, percussionist Ray Dillard, actor/director Leah Holder, artistic director for the Simcoe Contemporary dancers, Sarah Lochhead and visual artists/educators Sean George and Christina Mancuso.

The forum will take place from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst. To register, click here.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB’s Strategic Priorities under the pillars of community and excellence in teaching and learning.
