Parkbridge head office plan gets pass from council

While more approvals are required before Parkbridge can begin building its head office, work to prepare the site can begin

Council officially approved a change in zoning to a former landfill site, allowing Parkbridge Communities to move forward with plans to build a head office in Collingwood.

While further approvals (a site plan approval for one) are still necessary before Parkbridge can begin construction on its building, the zoning change allows site remediation work to begin on the property at 70 Huron Street, which is a former landfill site.

In a unanimous vote at the June 24 meeting, council voted to approve the change in zoning to allow the site to be used for commercial office space.

According to Robert Voigt, director of planning for Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities Inc., the work on site will include soil testing, removal of contaminated soil and replacement of that soil with clean fill.

He said the company plans to begin work later this summer.

Based on the most recent submission by Parkbridge (presented to development and operations standing committee June 17) Parkbridge intends to build a two-storey, 35,000 square-foot office building on site to operate as a head office for Canada-wide operations.

Parkbridge owns and operates land-lease developments, RV and cottage resort properties across Canada, including Park Place, Wasaga Meadows, Wasaga Pines, and Wasaga Dunes in Wasaga Beach.

The new head office will pull together the current Calgary operations and the Wasaga Beach office for approximately 130 to 150 jobs based in Collingwood, some of which will be filled at opening.
