Ontario reports 590 new COVID cases Thursday

Today's update also includes 939 recoveries, 45 new hospitalizations, and 11 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 590 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 10).

Today's update also includes 939 new recoveries and 11 deaths. 

The deaths reported today include six people between 60 and 79 years old, and six people over 79 years old. One death previously reported as an individual between 40 and 59 years old has been removed from the list.

Since yesterday's update, there have been 45 new hospitalizations, and 10 more COVID patients admitted to intensive care units.

The June 8 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 6,464 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 6,824 yesterday.
  • 516 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 571 yesterday.
  • There are 450 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 466 yesterday) and 291 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 314 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 31,423 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a two per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 12,428 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.4 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 114 are from Toronto, 130 cases are from Peel, and 16 are from Simcoe-Muskoka. 
  • Today's cases include 122 individuals aged 19 and under, 257 people between 20 and 39 years old, 132 people between 40 and 59 years old, 72 people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 182,350 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 177,506 doses administered on June 8.
  • 10,627,469 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total,1,399,776 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 538,077 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 522,682 recoveries and 8,931 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,619.9 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 33.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 27.7 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Currently, most health units in the province have weekly incidence rates between 0.6 and 56 cases per 100,000, with the exception of the Porcupine Health Unit (Timmins area) where the incidence rate is 316.4 cases per 100,000 people. 

Simcoe-Muskoka

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 25 new cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,102 cases of COVID-19 with 11,211 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.

There are 220 active cases in the region, and 25 people from Simcoe-Muskoka are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 24.2 cases per 100,000, which is a decrease of 26.7 per cent over last week (May 25 to 31).
