Public Health Ontario has reported 2,584 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 15).
Today's report includes 3,063 recoveries and 24 new deaths.
The May 15 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 27,566 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 28, 069 reported yesterday.
- 1,546 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,582 reported yesterday.
- There are 785 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 777 yesterday) and 560 COVID patients on ventilators (same as reported yesterday).
- The province reported 42,320 tests were processed yesterday.
- Another 19,533 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.7 million tests have been completed.
Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)
- 106,043 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7).
- 625 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
- 1,853 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil.
- Another 33,003 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet sequenced.
- According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.
Vaccines
- There were 154,104 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 14, which is up from 141,765 given on May 13.
- As of 6 p.m. on May 14, the province reported 6,925,232 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 422,960 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 507,117 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 471,096 recoveries and 8,455 deaths, of which 3,938 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
