Ontario reports 2,362 new COVID cases Friday

Today's report includes 3,502 recoveries, 139 new hospitalizations, and 31 deaths.

Public Health Ontario has reported 2,362 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 14). 

Today's report includes 3,502 recoveries and 26 new deaths.

The deaths reported today include three people between 20 and 39 years old, seven people between 40 and 59 years old, 12 people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday, the province has reported 139 new hospitalizations and 37 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The May 14 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 28,069 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 29,235 reported yesterday. 
  • 1,582 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,632 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 777 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 776 yesterday) and 560 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 568 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 44,040 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 6.1 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 22,237 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.6 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 691 are from Toronto, 563 cases are from Peel, 224 are from York Region, and 40 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
  • Today's cases include 422 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,006 people between 20 and 39 years old, 643 people between 40 and 59 years old, 252 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 40 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 141,765 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 13, which is up from 137,697 given on May 12.
  • As of 6 p.m. on May 13, the province reported 6,771,128 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 415,531 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 504,533 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 468,033 recoveries and 8,431 deaths, of which 3,937 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,394.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 131.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 16 per cent from last week (April 28 to May 4).

Simcoe-Muskoka

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 58 new COVID cases

There are 857 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, and of those 630 are variant strains.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,225 cases of COVID-19 with 9,586 of those cases recovered and 238 cases ending in death. 

There are 28 people from Simcoe County and two from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19.

Simcoe-Muskoka's weekly incidence rate is 67.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 25.5 per cent compared to the week of April 28 to May 4.
