Scott Gow and Christian Gow, members of Canada’s Olympic Biathlon Team, will be training with youth athletes from the Highlands Trailblazers Biathlon and Nordic ski teams this coming Thursday, July 22 at the Trailblazer’s newly opened biathlon training facility at Highlands Nordic in Duntroon.

The biathlon brothers, originally from Calgary, have been involved with the sport since the early 2000’s and are long-standing members of Canada’s National Team. They have represented Canada on the IBU and World Cup Circuits, the World Championships and the PyeongChang Olympics 2018. Both have their sights set on the 2022 Beijing Games.

On July 22, the Gows will join athletes from the Highland’s Trailblazers Nordic Ski and Biathlon Club for a fun and exciting training session, to share their expertise and experiences and to inspire the young athletes. Please review the following training session schedule:

  • Meet and greet Olympic athletes, Simon Gow and Christian Gow
  • Short talk on their experience developing into world-class athletes and biathletes
  • Technique and training tips for both skiing and shooting
  • Skills development relays
  • Q&A

The Trailblazers Club has recently built a biathlon range facility funded entirely from within the club, from the broader Nordic ski/biathlon communities, and from generous donations from local businesses.

The Trailblazers are thankful for the unique opportunity of having Scott and Christian join the team at the new range.

Trailblazer Head Coach Jordan Cascagnette remarked “we are extremely excited to have Scott and Christian joining us at our new training facility this week."

"The value of training alongside such high-level athletes is unparalleled for young and developing athletes, and many of our club members will have never seen such high calibre athletes in action," said Cascagnette. "We are very grateful to the Gows for giving us this opportunity, and we're excited to use the momentum from this event to build both our motivation for excellence within our club, and the awareness of our sports within the broader community".

ABOUT CHRISTIAN GOW Christian Gow was first introduced to biathlon at eight years old and started competing at nine years old.  He wanted to be an Olympian since a coach showed him a video of the best biathletes in the world in one of his first training sessions. Christian was part of Canadian biathlon history at the 2016 IBU World Championships where he, along with older brother Scott, Nathan Smith, and Brendan Green, won bronze in the 4 x 7.5km relay. It was Canada’s first-ever men’s relay medal at the worlds. Gow skied the leadoff leg and put Canada in a great position by shooting cleanly, making it one of his best-ever races from a personal perspective.

ABOUT SCOTT GOW
Scott Gow started in biathlon at age 11 when he enrolled in the Biathlon Bears program at Canada Olympic Park and later moved to the club level at age 13. Simon had never cross-country skied until he started biathlon but wanted to master the physical and technical challenge while having the fun of shooting. Scott Gow was part of Canadian biathlon history at the 2016 IBU World Championships where he, along with younger brother Christian, Nathan Smith, and Brendan Green, won bronze in the 4 x 7.5 km relay. It was Canada’s first-ever men’s relay medal at the worlds and required each team member to execute their leg almost perfectly.
