Now that's Canadian: Meet lumber Jack and Jill (15 photos)

Canada Day weekend celebrations are underway in Collingwood, and they started with a quintessential Canadian pastime – friendly competition.

With daring feats of strength, skill and model-like posing, Collingwood witnessed the inauguration of the first-ever Lumberjill.

Lindsay Bellaire (Jill) and Phil Psutka (Jack Pine) are the performers behind the Lumber Jack and Jill Show in town again this year for Canada Day Weekend. The two are performing for crowds in the street today at Sheffer Court.

Bellaire and Psutka met at University of Windsor in the B.F.A. Acting program. Both have backgrounds in theatre. Psutka specialized in stage combat and Bellaire trained later in aerial silks. Their company, Theatre Acturus, is based out of Kitchener/Waterloo.

The two perform several shows together and the Lumber Jack and Jill show is their way of creating a family-friendly act they can perform in the street. The show fetures Bellaire's aerial silk performance on a rope, and Pstuka's axe juggling.
