The region's health unit has confirmed nine new COVID-19 cases in Simcoe County today.
The health unit has also confirmed the death of a New Tecumseth resident who was living at Simcoe Manor long-term care home. The County of Simcoe reported the resident's death last night. The home has been in an active COVID-19 outbreak since the end of September and ten residents have now died.
The new cases reported today involve residents in Barrie, Bradford West Gwillimbury, New Tecumseth, Orillia, Tay, and Penetanguishene.
There are two new cases in Barrie, both under investigation. One is a boy under the age of 18 and the other is a woman between 18 and 34 years old.
There are two new cases in Bradford, both are close contact transmission. They include a woman between 35 and 44 years old, and a man between 45 and 64 years old.
There are also two new cases in New Tecumseth today including a girl under the age of 18 whose transmission is under investigation. The second case is a woman between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to a congregate setting outbreak.
The final three cases reported today include an Orillia woman between 18 and 34 years old (close contact), a Penetanguishene man between 65 and 79 years old (community-acquired), and a Tay man between 45 and 64 years old (under investigation).
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,356 cases of COVID-19, with 1,277 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,141 cases listed as recovered. Five people are currently hospitalized. The health unit has recorded 50 deaths.
The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 242 cases per 100,000 people.
