There will be a funeral service on Friday to honour the memory of a local firefighter who died earlier this week.

Michael Scott, a Collingwood resident and firefighter in Aurora and Newmarket with Central York Fire Services, died on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the age of 44.

An obituary posted on the Fawcett Funeral Homes website indicates he succumbed to mental illness. Scott was in a motorcycle accident in 2016, and his recovery was still ongoing.

Scott was a firefighter with The Blue Mountains Fire department for seven years before earning a position with Central York Fire Services out of station 4-3 serving the Newmarket and Aurora area.

Scott’s obituary said he was an outdoor enthusiast in all seasons, and a proud member of the firefighter brotherhood. He and his wife, Abbey Scott, had one son.

The memorial service will take place at Craigleith Ski Club at 1 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 23).

In lieu of flowers, there will be a Go Fund Me account set up for the organization called Frontline Forward, which provides support, education, and help managing symptoms related to occupational stress for first responders.
