Collingwood Public Library is offering prize packs for ten Community COVID Champions to be chosen in March. You can submit a nomination for anyone 13 years old and up.

The Collingwood Public Library wants to make sure simple acts of kindness aren’t being overlooked during the pandemic by recognizing them with a new initiative.

The library launched the Community COVID Champion contest yesterday as a way to recognize people for small gestures that might be overlooked or unseen by most.

Katelyn Bernath, coordinator of teen services and outreach for the library, said the contest is open to anyone aged 13 and above and nominations can be for something as simple as a teen who is helping out around the house more to support their family during COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.

“The idea came out of being concerned with everybody’s mental health and coming up with some small gesture for the community,” said Bernath. “I know people are struggling, and I also know people are really stepping up and taking care of each other and I think we need to focus on those positives.”

Nominations for the Community COVID Champion program will be accepted between now and March 17, after which the library staff will choose ten winners to receive a library prize pack.

Nomination forms will be posted to the library's social media accounts and paper copies are available at the library. The form is also available online here.
