The following letter was written in response to a story on the history and current revitalization of Simcoe Street.

Editor,
I was glad to see the wonderful community work of Rick and Anke Lex recognized in the article on Simcoe Street, but I was dismayed that the reporter said the Tremont Café has “moved to a new home on Pine Street.”
How is that possible? The name Tremont Café has been associated with the Tremont Building since the first owners opened it 10 years ago! The name has nothing to do with Pine Street...so why on earth would the new owners use it?
It’s like opening a new restaurant on Charing Cross Road and calling it Simpson’s in the Strand: or opening a new restaurant in Penn Station and calling it The Oyster Bar; or opening a new place near the Metropolitan Opera House and calling it The Carnegie Deli.
It would never happen because smart minds would prevail. Calling the new space the Tremont Café is just plain wrong on so many fronts.
To me – the Tremont Café will always reside in the Tremont Building.
