The following letter was written in response to a council decision to ban barbecues at Sunset Point Park for the remainder of the summer and a subsequent letter to the editor criticizing the ban.
*************************

I would like to respond to the person who wrote the letter about the ban of barbecues at Sunset Point.

It is unfortunate that you view this as discriminatory. I don’t believe it was intended to send a message to anyone and I am sure that council is only concerned with keeping Collingwood safe for its residents during COVID. This ban ensures that people will observe the rules, i.e distancing and small groups.

Collingwood has always been most welcoming to visitors and will continue to be so.

I might note that Wasaga Beach and Sauble Beach both charge for parking and do not permit barbecues on the beach.

We are fortunate to live here and so must be willing to put up with some restrictions to keep our town a safe haven.
