The Christmas season launches this weekend in Collingwood, and yes, Santa Claus is coming to town.

The bells will be jingling and the halls decked this weekend downtown Collingwood starting with the Ho Ho Holiday 5K.

This festive fun run, takes place on Collingwood’s trails and features more than 1,000 Santa’s running toward the Christmas Eve deadline. Register online here and meet at the Pine Street parking lot for start and finish line, a kids fun zone, a DJ, a beer garden, and holiday activities.

The run begins at 11 a.m.

In the evening, take in the annual Santa Claus Parade, which begins Saturday at 5 p.m. and runs along Hurontario Street from Hume to First Street. This year’s theme is “What Christmas Means to Me.”

Following the parade, there will be a tree lighting and fireworks at the Collingwood Federal Building.

If you’re looking for a closer, more intimate meeting with Santa, he’ll be back every Saturday with his reindeer at his big red sleigh beside town hall from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Nov. 17, several merchants have arranged open houses, and there will be caroling in the street to help set the mood for the official launch of the Collingwood Christmas season.
