Le Diner En Blanc takes over Simcoe Street Saturday night

Wondering why there were crowds of people dressed in white walking downtown Collingwood on Saturday?

A new event for Collingwood, but long-standing international sensation, saw a parade of white-clad guests with picnic baskets make their way from rendezvous points throughout town to meet at Simcoe Street.

The event, called Le Diner En Blanc or Dinner En Blanc, comes from an idea that began in France. Guests buy tickets to the event and are given a rendezvous point. They pack their own food, linens and table settings and find out the location of the dinner only after following a guide from the meeting place to the event location.

In Collingwood, Simcoe Street was closed all day Saturday, Sept. 8 for the event and tables lined the street in long rows. Organizers said there were about 700 people in attendance.
