The Town of Collingwood has received top marks for water quality in 2018.

The 2018 Water Compliance Report was presented to the Development and Operations standing committee Wednesday night.

In November 2018, the Collingwood Drinking Water System received a 100% rating from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks during its annual inspection. No regulatory non-compliances were found during the inspection.

“I extend congratulations on behalf of the committee for exemplary results,” said Coun. Kathy Jeffery. “We know you do go above and beyond and this is a great result that you surely deserve.”

The 2018 Annual Water Compliance Report covers the period of Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018.

As part of the report, it was noted that the backflow prevention program has completed its first full year of operation. There are currently 183 compliant premises and 313 premises that have completed an initial survey and are in the process of becoming compliant. A total of 656 premises are included in the program.

“Do we have a timeline for the completion of that process?” asked Mayor Brian Saunderson.

“We’re still expecting three years minimum to hit all the businesses for the first touch,” said Peggy Slama, manager of environmental services. “It does take time for the businesses to go through the process as well. We hope to have everyone in the system in four years and working on compliance within it.”

The committee voted unanimously to recommend receiving the report and forwarded it to the next meeting of council.
