NEWS RELEASE
COUNTY OF SIMCOE

In recognition of the contributions of many compassionate, dedicated, and professional nurses who provide exceptional care for our families, friends, and neighbours, Warden Gerry Marshall has proclaimed May 6 – 12, 2018 as Nursing Week in Simcoe County. This celebration coincides with National Nursing Week.

“Our nurses in long term care and working in the health-care system across the County make such a tremendous impact on our communities and well-being,” said Warden Gerry Marshall. “Join us in recognizing our nurses for their countless contributions, passion and dedication.”

The County employs 200 professional registered nurses and registered practical nurses and 375 personal support workers through our Long Term Care and Seniors Services Department, each of whom do an exceptional job delivering care to our residents.

The County continues to partner with Georgian College to offer Practical Nursing and Pre-Health Sciences courses on a part-time basis at the County of Simcoe’s Georgian Village seniors lifestyle community in Penetanguishene. This innovative program provides students with practical nursing experience in a long-term care home setting, while increasing the number of health-care workers available to care for our aging population both today and in the future.

County of Simcoe is composed of sixteen member municipalities and provides crucial public services to County residents in addition to providing paramedic and social services to the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia. Visit our website at simcoe.ca.
