First question first. What’s an EGOT? It is the acronym for the four major Artistic Awards a person can achieve, an EMMY (television), GRAMMY (music), OSCAR (Academy Award) and TONY (theatre).
Richard Rodgers was the first to receive the EGOT, grand slam of show business, for his compositions and scores for musical theatre and films between 1945 and 1962.
How many notes? Richard Rodgers might have known, as he wrote over 900 songs during his life time. But it’s not the number of notes which is important, it is the genius and beauty of the music he composed.
With lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II he revolutionized musical theatre with shows such as Pal Joey, Oklahoma and The King and I. Many of the songs he wrote, Blue Moon, Lady is a Tramp, Manhattan, Bewitched among many others, became jazz standards performed frequently to this day.
Collingwood actor, producer and vocalist Dean Hollin will bring his brand new show Rodgers & H (Hart and Hammerstein) to the Marsh Street Centre on Saturday June 23 at 7:30 p.m.
