Home sales in the region totalled $84 million in February

Supply of houses for sale remains low, which is helping drive up prices in the area.

February brought an increase in home sales to the region.

According to the Southern Georgian Bay Association of Realtors and MLS data, there were 166 units sold in the area last month, which is up 21.2 per cent over February 2018. The total value of residential sales in the region for last month was $84.2 million, which is an increase of 36.1 per cent from February 2018.

The year-to-date sales data is also up with 300 units sold in 2019, which is an increase of 4.9 per cent (or 14 sales) from the same period in 2018.

Collingwood is part of the western region of South Georgian Bay, where there were 197 homes sold in January and February this year. The western region also includes Wasaga Beach, Clearview Township, The Blue Mountains, Meaford, and the Grey Highlands.

“Home sales posted some decent year-over-year gains in February, although that was really just the flipside of last year’s very quiet month of February, which you’ll recall was the weakest month for sales in the region in more than five years,” said Stan Reljic, President of the Southern Georgian Bay Association of Realtors in a press release. “Having said that, inventories across the region remain near historic lows, which continues to lend support to prices even with demand still running at below-average levels.”

Supply in the region has increased by 15.3 per cent over last year at this time, but it still only adds up to half the long-term average for this time of year with 790 units for sale in the region at the end of February.
