On May 1, Murphy will commence the 900-kilometre hike from Niagara Falls to Tobermory along Canada's oldest and longest continuous footpath, the Bruce Trail.

Collingwood's Healthy Hiker will be making her Blue Mountain stop this Friday (May 27) as she treks from 900 kilometres from Niagara to Tobermory to raise funds for My Friend's House.

Linda Murphy has been hiking about 20-kilometres per day along the Bruce Trail since May 1 as part of her Boots on the Bruce for Shelter hike. Her goal was to raise $50,000 for the Collingwood women's shelter.

As of now, Murphy has hiked about 300 kilometres and raised more than $20,000 toward her goal. She is expected to complete her journey in June.

“I encourage anyone to join me for a few hours or a few days to bring financial assistance and increase awareness of the needs of women and children who seek shelter at My Friend’s House, serving Collingwood, Blue Mountain, Clearview Township, and Wasaga Beach areas,” said Murphy in a media release.

Murphy previously hiked 3,000 kilometers on the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada to raise more than $32,000 for My Friend’s House in 2019.

My Friend's House is a 12-bed shelter that has offered shelter and counselling services to women and their children for 30 years, thanks in large part to the donations of local supporters.

“Linda’s support and enthusiasm have been a great asset to the shelter and the women we serve. Her dedication to helping is infectious and will assist us long after the hike is over to provide critical services for victims of violence 365 days a year," said Executive Director Alison Fitzgerald.

Supporters can meet Murphy at 12 p.m. on May 27 at the parking lot at the intersection of Scenic Caves Road (County Road 119) and Swiss Meadows Blvd. Interested hikers can join her along the trail to Maple Lane and the Loree Forest that afternoon.
