Building activity and construction value in Collingwood is down for August over the same month last year, and the year-to-date statistics show less construction and lower value this year over last.
However, the building department has been busy issuing permits. They issued 617 this year, 135 of which were given in August. The construction value for building in August was $10 million, which is down from $35.9 million in August 2017. Last year, August was the biggest construction value month. This year, it was May, when the construction value totalled $27.7 million.
Year-to-date construction value is sitting at $51.8 million for 2018, it was at $81.2 million this time in 2017.
Building permit fees collected in August 2018 totalled $83,334, bringing the year-to-date total to $454,329. There were 22 new dwelling units created this month, which included 15 detached, six townhouse and one apartment unit. The permits are further broken down into the types of square footage created. In August there was 51,384 square feet of new unit construction, 12,651 square feet of renovation construction and 3,808 square feet of addition construction.
Development charges collected in August were $297,959 for the town and $172,616 for the county.
Commercial construction value in August was $1,140,000 which is broken down into 2,573 square feet of renovated space and 3,573 square feet of addition space. Industrial construction value in August was $140,000 for 2,799 square feet of renovated space.
