Another resident has added his name to the ballot for the upcoming municipal election.

Shawn Cooper has filed to run for a councillor’s seat in the October vote. He is the son of current mayor Sandra Cooper, but Mayor Sandra Cooper has announced she will not be running again in the upcoming election.

Cooper has served two terms as the local trustee on the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic School Board.

So far there are two candidates for mayor and they are former OPP detachment commander John Trude and current deputy mayor Brian Saunderson.

Current councillor Tim Fryer is the lone candidate for deputy mayor thus far.

Incumbent councillors Deb Doherty, Cam Ecclestone and Kathy Jeffery have filed nomination papers to run for a councillor’s spot again. Steve Berman has also filed papers to run for a councillor seat.

The municipal election also includes school board trustees. Hugh Caulfield of Wasaga Beach has filed papers to run for the English public school board trustee. Eric Lapointe of Barrie has filed to run for the French public school board trustee position.

Donald Blais of Bradford is the only person so far running for the French separate school board trustee position.

The election will be held October 22 and votes will be received online or by phone. Nominations close on Friday, July 27.
