Here are some things to do for Thanksgiving weekend in Collingwood

There's a wide variety of events – from a marathon to a hootenanny – going on in Collingwood and surrounding area.

Thanksgiving is upon us this weekend, and there are a variety of events coming up in Collingwood and surrounding area for you and your family to enjoy.

Here’s a list of some activities taking place from Oct. 5-8.

Saturday, Oct. 6

Collingwood Farmers’ Market: This will be the last farmers’ market of the season. Check out local and area vendors selling a variety of produce, prepared food, sweet treats, household items, and clothing. The Art Chair Auction will also take place during the final market. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Muskoka chairs that have been placed around town will be auctioned off. The minimum bid is $50 and the chair must be paid for and taken away at the end of the auction.

Collingwood Half Marathon: The sixth-annual event features a 10-kilometre run and 2-kilometre kids run with courses through town. Proceeds from the registration fees will be donated to My Friend’s House. For more information on the race, to sign up or to donate, click here. The course does include one road closure on Sixth Street at Tenth Line from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Wasaga Fall Hootenanny: The town of Wasaga Beach is hosting its first-ever fall hootenanny, which takes place from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Wasaga Beach RecPlex on Mosley Street. There will be indoor and outdoor activities including axe throwing, wagon and pony rides, a petting zoo, a beer garden, and line dancing. There will also be live music. Admission is $3 per person or $6 for a family.

Oct. 6-8

Apple Harvest Festival: This annual festival takes place in locations from Thornbury to Clarksburg and Blue Mountain Village. There are several free, family-friendly activities including horse-drawn wagon rides, live music, guided hikes, an apple pie eating contest, cidery tours, art studio tours, caramel apple decorating, dancing, face painting, and fireworks at Blue Mountain Village on Saturday at 8 p.m. The fireworks will mark the 20th anniversary of the town’s amalgamation under the banner The Blue Mountains.
