Halloween PSA: Don't cross the streams

Okay, who brought the dog?

Your Halloween plans could include a glass of green slime, Sumerian mythology, and Bill Murray on the big screen.

Ghostbusters is back in the theatre for two days, only in Collingwood.

The Retro Cinema Series is presenting a double feature – Ghostbusters 1 and 2 – this Oct. 30 and 31.

Kelly Burrow brought the idea of a retro film series to the Gayety Film Club and has been showing two features a month since July.

“I love movies,” she said. “Going to the movies was where I felt most at home … so it gives me a nostalgic feeling.”

Burrow is a former Collingwood resident and was an employee at the old Cinema 4, a four-screen cinema that used to be located on the corner of Minnesota and First Street. She’s now working in film and television in Toronto.

She was excited to bring her retro film series to Collingwood, and the Ghostbusters double bill marks the end of this series. She plans on taking a break and returning with more family-friendly films.

“There’s something to be said for making a movie an event,” said Burrow.

Other titles in the series included Back to the Future, Jaws, E.T., and The Big Lebowski.

“I tried to think about what people would be excited to see on the big screen again,” she said.

The double feature event includes a costume contest, candy for the kids, and a specialty cocktail - the Green Slime.

Tickets for the event are $17 for adults, $8.50 for children, and $13 for seniors, and are available online here or at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. The costume contest and prize giveaways start at 7 p.m. and the first movie begins at 7:30 p.m.
