Firefighters from six Grey County fire departments came together to hone their skills in a live fire training unit.

The mobile training unit is a self-contained trailer that generates "smoke" from a propane-fueled fire. Firefighters can practice skills like search and rescue, live fire attack, and ventilation in a controlled and safe environment.

Since the closure of the Ontario Fire College, it has become increasingly important for firefighters to gain valuable live fire training. Having this mobile training unit available means we can cover some of that gap," said Fire Chief Marty Wellwood.

Over 160 firefighters took part in the training. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office provides the unit and transports it across the province to provide training to Ontario’s 441 Fire Departments.
